Wells-Kennedy PartnershipThe WorkshopsThe firm is based at Lisburn, a thriving market town, birthplace of the Irish Linen industry and home of much furniture making, situated on the banks of the river Lagan. It has proved a most strategic location being only 10 miles from Belfast and within a 100 mile radius one can reach north to Coleraine and Londonderry, west to counties Fermanagh and Donegal and south to Dublin. Having started in the garage ajoining the home of Christopher Gordon-Wells in 1966, the expanding firm soon required larger accomodation. This was found in an old schoolhouse at Stoneyford located in the hills to the north-west of Lisburn. The present Gregg Street workshop, a terraced property and former bakery with yard and stable block to the rear, was purchased in 1971 and has been steadily adapted over the years to the developing needs of the company. Adjoining properties have been acquired which have facilitated a larger voicing shop and pipe store, a new custom-built erecting shop with a working height of 26 ft built in 1979, and in 1996 the creation of a new console shop and key action department. A further significant development in 1997 was a move into metal pipemaking. Following the acquisition of pipemaking equipment from the former Belfast City Organ Pipeworks we have established our own metalshop and plan to service some of our own requirements for new pipes as well as to provide pipemaking and repair services to the local, Irish markets and further afield.
