Wells-Kennedy Partnership

History of the Firm

1966 Partnership established at Lisburn by Christopher Gordon-Wells and Philip Kennedy, following withdrawal of Alfred E Davies & Son, Northampton from N.I.
1971 Purchase of workshop & office premises at 85 Gregg Street, Lisburn
1975 Construction of first new mechanical action organ setting a precedent for new mechanical work.
1976 Construction of additional workshop space and covered yard
1977 Dissolution of Partnership, Christopher Gordon-Wells continuing as sole trader; Philip Kennedy leaves to join Society of St Francis
1978 Purchase of no. 87 Gregg Street for development as voicing shop
1980 Formation of Limited Company, directors Christopher Gordon-Wells & David McElderry
Construction of new assembly shop
1981 Become representatives in Northern Ireland for J W Walker & Sons Ltd of Brandon Suffolk
1987 Purchase of no. 83 Gregg Street; re-roofing of nos. 85 & 87 Gregg Street, renovation of office accommodation
1996 Renovation of no. 83 Gregg Street to provide console shop and key action department; new drawing office created in 1st floor accommodation of 85 Gregg Street
1997 David McElderry assumes responsibility of Managing Director, Christopher Gordon-Wells remaining as Chairman.
Formation of WK Pipecraft following closure of Belfast City Organ Pipeworks.
1999 Renovation of no. 85 Gregg Street.
2001 Incorporation of WK Pipecraft in Gregg Street premises. Completion of first new 3 manual mechanical action organ (first built in Ulster & first installed in Ulster for over 100 years)
